Wings are components that can be placed on a ship while it is docked at a Shipyard. They cannot be held in your inventory and must be picked up using your gauntlet when within the bubble of a shipyard that you have access to. They can be found as schematics located within chests or containers scattered around the islands or they can be learned by spending knowledge points.

Unlike on a real aircraft, wings don't provide any lift in Worlds Adrift - this is exclusively done by the ship's Atlas Core. They are only used to increase the ship's ability to turn. They are not necessary to turn ships though, since the Atlas Core inherently has the ability to turn. However, wings do increase the turning ability of ships.

Wing Placement[edit | edit source]

Proper wing placement is crucial. Really important is to keep the wings placement symmetrical. Unsymmetrically placed wings can lead to unwanted pulling to one side.

When placing a wing, you want to place it in a way so that the ailerons (the little flappy bits, that are the moving parts) are facing towards the back of the ship.

There are three ways you can place your wings - horizontally, vertically or at an angle somewhere in between. Each of these three placement methods has different effects.

Regular wing (horizontally)[edit | edit source]

With a horizontally placed wing you can roll the ship left and right or pitch up- or downwards.

Rudder (vertically)[edit | edit source]

A rudder helps to yaw the ship faster (basically rotate left or right; pretty much like the Atlas Core does). Having at least one of these makes maneuvering a lot easier.

Hybrid (angled)[edit | edit source]

If you don't want to build a dedicated rudder but still want the benefits of having a rudder, then you might want to angle your wings.
If a wing is placed at a perfect 45 degree angle, then it is 70% as effective a rudder as a vertical wing, and 70% as effective as a horizontal wing. This way, the wing does some of both, but not as well as the purely vertical/horizontal wings.
As the placement angle changes though, so does the effectiveness-ratio. For example, the more horizontal the wing, the lower the effectiveness the wing has as a rudder.

Wing Statistics[edit | edit source]

Weight[edit | edit source]

The weight of the wing in Kilograms. This is a total of the weight of all the materials used to craft the wing.

Resilience[edit | edit source]

The hit points (HP or health) of the wing provided by the wing's casing. (also see: Resilience)
Notable materials: Aluminum, Titanium, Steel, Iron.

Power[edit | edit source]

Power in wings is a different thing than power in engines!
In wings, power is referred to as the maximum angle, the wings are able to pivot your ship. (i.e. a power of 100 can turn your ship much quicker than a power of 1.)

Pivot Speed[edit | edit source]

This refers to how fast the wing reacts to your steering inputs. With a low value, the wing will take a moment before starting to pivot your ship. (i.e. with a power of 1 when you turn your ship it will take a few seconds to start turning, with a power of 100 it starts turning instantly.)

Material Boosts[edit | edit source]

Credit for Research goes to Demodraco and his forum thread Testing was done using Q10 Copper in other slots, this means the "Percentage increase over base" is always off by the boost of Q10 copper (from the other slot boosting that particular stat)
